Limited edition Brabus 900 XLP revealed

Category : ,

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 has been taken up a few levels by tuning company Brabus to create the new 900 XLP, taking the G-Class’s already less-than-restrained personality and pumping it up even further.

With the 900 XLP, Brabus has built the most powerful G 63-based model yet. The ‘Brabus Rocket’ 4.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 888bhp and more torque than a 7.7-litre Unimog, at 1,250Nm. This has been achieved with tweaked turbochargers and a new stainless steel exhaust system.

This power is sent through a nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 4.4 seconds. That’s even more impressive given the 900 XLP truck weighs 286kg more than a G 63, at 2,936kg. However, the 900 XLP’s top speed is limited to 130mph.

Some of the machine’s significant weight can be attributed to the addition of off-road equipment that includes a roof-rack, heavy-duty winch, four auxiliary LED lights, a widebody kit and 22-inch Monoblock Z HD forged wheels wrapped in chunky off-road tyres. The 900 XLP also features carbon fibre exterior trim parts, including for its active exhaust system’s tips.

The G 63’s suspension has also been tweaked with the addition of a ‘Brabus Ride Control’ module and front and rear portal axles (also seen on the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² and G 63 AMG 6×6 truck) to allow for a ground clearance of 49cm.

Inside, the 900 XLP’s bold theme continues with ‘Mondial Black’ leather and Brabus seashell diamond quilting, while the ‘Rocket Red’ colour scheme from the wheels and badging is carried through to the interior trim panels, door handles, switches and dash. There’s more carbon fibre detailing too.

Inflating its personality even further, the 900 XLP features active sound management, with owners able to select Sport mode for “an exceedingly throaty V8 sound.” This can be switched to a more subtle ‘Whisper” in Coming Home mode.

There’s no word on pricing just yet, but with the 800 XLP from Brabus costing around £500,000, the more powerful 900 XLP will likely be significantly more expensive, and just 10 examples will be built.
