The Budget-Friendly Polestar 2 Finally Hits the States
The single-motor Polestar 2 is now available in the US market for orders and test drives. It sports an EPA-estimated 270-mile range and generates 231 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. The single-motor Polestar 2 starts at $47,200, which is $4,000 cheaper than the dual-motor Polestar 2.It’s no shock that two electric motors mean there’s extra cost baked into an electric car, reflected in the final retail price. Fewer motors=lower price. That’s exactly what’s happening with the Polestar 2.The battery-electric sedan launched exclusively with dual motors in the United States, and now the automaker is taking orders for a single-motor version. It carries the same long-range battery pack, which means there’s no range penalty. In fact, the EPA says the single-motor Polestar 2’s 270-mile range bests the dual-motor by 21 miles. As expected, output falls to 231 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, down significantly from the dual-motor Polestar 2’s 408 hp and 487 lb-ft. The drop in power is also reflected in the single-motor’s 7.0-second 0-60 time. Option packages such as the aptly named Plus Pack are still available to tack on a massive panoramic glass roof, and the Pilot Pack will add driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control. Vegan leather still covers the seating and touchpoints, and the styling is unchanged. The added range makes up for the decrease in power, but price is the reason to choose the single-motor version. It starts at $47,200 (including destination charges) and shaves $4,000 off the Polestar 2’s price. Of course, that number can shrink further by various tax incentives that may apply to you.
